Roper Pump Installs Two Nidec GD30 Hobbing Machines

“When we began our technology upgrade initiative, these new Nidec hobbing machines were our top priority,” said Jonathan Horrobin, Continuous Improvement Manager at Roper Pump Company. “We recognized the need to modernize our equipment to stay competitive and meet growing customer demands.”

Gear Manufacturing Technology Built for Accuracy

The GD30 combines accurate gear cutting with features designed to make programming and operation easier. With five controlled axes and capacity for workpieces up to 300 mm in diameter, the vertical hobbing machine accommodates a wide range of gear-cutting applications.

Conversational programming guides operators through entering gear and tool specifications, automatically determining machining conditions and generating programs. The GD30 also accommodates hobs up to 230 mm long, supporting extended machining time and continuous roughing and finishing with combination tooling. Together, these features are designed to simplify setup and reduce changeover time.

A Smooth Transition to New Equipment

For Roper Pump, the project involved more than selecting new equipment. A smooth installation and timely start-up were also important.

“The installation process was smooth and efficient,” Horrobin said. “The machines were delivered and installed on schedule, and our team was up and running in no time.”

The two GD30s are now part of Roper Pump’s manufacturing operation. The investment reflects the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry, alongside NIDEC MACHINE TOOL AMERICA’s work to support customers through delivery and installation.
